Bangladesh lost by 8 wickets to New Zealand in Chennai. Bangladesh batters did not get runs on a good wicket even in Dharamsala. Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik blames Mirpur's pitch for Bangladesh's failure on good wickets.

The match against New Zealand did not take place on the usual Chennai wicket. It is different from the wicket that was in the India -Australia match. The Bangladesh team was hoping for a similar wicket.

Bangladesh is used to playing on Mirpur's slow wicket throughout the year. The series which was played at home against New Zealand before the World Cup - the wickets were a bit slow there too. So it was not an ideal preparation for the World Cup.

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has explained why Bangladesh is not doing good on good wickets in the World Cup. In a post-match program on Pakistani TV channel A-Sports, he said, “I think Bangladesh should prepare good wickets. If they win any series, it's on a low-scoring pitch. The statistics we were seeing of their spinners before the match are telling the fact."

Complaints were made about the Mirpur wicket a long time ago. Before the T20 World Cup in 2021, Bangladesh played on slow wickets in Mirpur against Australia and New Zealand. And Bangladesh didn’t do well in the World Cup. According to Shoaib Malik, playing on the Mirpur wicket is not an easy task at all.

“Look, it happened to us too. Once upon a time, only pace-friendly wickets were made in our domestic cricket. It reduced the number of pacers bowling by more than 140. As a result spinners also started coming less. This is also the case with Bangladesh. Their Mirpur is a ground where scoring runs are not easy at all,” Malik added.
