It was the final over of Bangladesh’s innings, and Mahmudullah Riyad faced the challenge with composure. The first ball was short from Romario Shepherd, and Mahmudullah pulled it over the boundary for a six, completing an extraordinary feat.

With this shot, the veteran cricketer became the first Bangladeshi player to hit 200 sixes in international cricket. The historic moment occurred during the first ODI against the West Indies on Sunday. The 38-year-old all-rounder achieved this landmark in his unbeaten 50-run innings off 44 balls, which included three sixes and three fours.

Mahmudullah entered the match needing just three sixes to reach the 200-mark. He now surpasses Tamim Iqbal, who holds the second-highest tally for Bangladesh with 188 sixes across formats.

The experienced batter has smashed these 200 sixes over 430 innings. By comparison, Tamim reached his tally of 188 sixes in 448 innings. Mahmudullah’s sixes include 24 in Tests, 99 in ODIs, and a record 77 in T20Is, making him Bangladesh’s most prolific six-hitter in the shortest format.

Following Mahmudullah and Tamim, Mushfiqur Rahim has 173 sixes in 521 innings, while Shakib Al Hasan has 135 sixes from 491 innings. Litton Das completes the top five with 119 maximums. Soumya Sarkar (109) and Mashrafe Mortaza (107) also have six-hitting centuries to their names.

Despite Mahmudullah’s achievement, Bangladesh remains far from the global record. India’s Rohit Sharma leads the international six-hitting charts with an astonishing 624 sixes, followed by Chris Gayle (553) and Shahid Afridi (476).

Globally, Mahmudullah is now the 41st player to achieve 200 sixes in international cricket.
