Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur’s final ICC event likely to be Champions Trophy, but no immediate retirement
Even though rumours have been going around, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur have not publicly told the BCB that they are retiring. They are going to talk about their future with board members before Bangladesh's first Champions Trophy game on February 20 against India.

Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim are likely to play in their last ICC event, the Champions Trophy 2025. But neither of the experienced Bangladeshi cricketers will be quitting right away after the event. So, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning a final game to be played at home, maybe against Zimbabwe.
Kaler Kantho says that talks are still going on to set up a one-off ODI against Zimbabwe as a farewell for the two veterans. At first, Bangladesh was supposed to play Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI and T20I series in April. But because Bangladesh doesn't have as many Test matches this year, Zimbabwe Cricket has decided to play two Test matches instead of the white-ball series. BCB is now thinking about adding an extra ODI match to say goodbye to Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah.
Even though rumours have been going around, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur have not publicly told the BCB that they are retiring. They are going to talk about their future with board members before Bangladesh's first Champions Trophy game on February 20 against India.
Mahmudullah has already quit T20Is to focus on his ODI career, according to the report. Two months ago, Mushfiqur was said to have thought about quitting both Tests and ODIs. Because he has been hurt a lot lately, the 2027 ODI World Cup is no longer a goal for him. He may also stop playing ODIs for a while but keep playing Test cricket.
Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mushfiqur Rahim used to be Bangladesh's famous "Fantastic Five." Mashrafe has already retired, and Tamim had already said that he would no longer play for his country. Shakib wanted to play in the Champions Trophy before retiring, but his bowling motion problems kept him from making the team. This leaves Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur as the last surviving veterans, and their exit from international cricket seems likely.
When the Champions Trophy 2025 comes around, it will be Bangladesh's last ICC event. Two of their most experienced cricketers may soon play in a special farewell match in Dhaka.
