South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has been reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing Test match against England in Bloemfontein.
Emirates ICC International Panel: South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has been reprimanded and given a penalty point for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ongoing Test match against England in Bloemfontein.
Wolvaardt was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the Code, which relates to "expressing dissent against the decision of an umpire during an international match".
The offence occurred during the 45th over of South Africa's first innings on Monday, when Wolvaardt expressed his frustration at being awarded LBW (low body war) by the on-field umpires.
As a result of the offence, a penalty point was added to Wolvaardt's disciplinary record. This is her first offence in a 24-month period. The charge was brought by umpires Lauren Agenbag and Kerrin Klaaste, with the assistance of third umpire Bongani Jele and fourth umpire Siphelele Gasa.
Wolvaardt admitted the offence and accepted the suggested penalty imposed by Shandre Fritz, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. A formal hearing was not deemed necessary.
For Level 1 violations, penalties range from an official warning to a fine of up to 50 percent of the player's match fee, plus one or two penalty points.
