Team India surrendered at the hands of the belligerent Aussies in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. When the two cricketing giants crossed swords with each other, there was a feeling that the Men in Blue would take revenge on the Aussies for their 2003 final debacle.
Virat KohliHowever, that wasn't meant to be as the Aussies were head and shoulders above India across all facets of the game. They once again showed that they are a world-class team in the big stages. Australia got the better of Team India by six wickets to clinch their sixth ODI World Cup trophy.
After the result, the Indian players were left speechless and some of them shed tears and expressed disappointment as they didn't end up on the winning side. Some fans stayed classy as usual as they applauded the Indian cricket team for their determination, attitude and fearless approach in the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli's sister Bhawna Kohli Dhingra made the headlines as she shared a heartfelt post on Instagram. She wrote, "Virat you have made us so so proud that there is nothing more that we could ask for love you # Proud forever."
"I know we all expected a different result but we are with you TEAM INDIA because you don't give up on your family when they fall. In fact that's the time we support them."
After the game, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said, "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets. When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne who stitched together a big partnership and put us completely out of the game."
At the post-match presentation, he further added, "We tried everything we could but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse. We knew under lights it would be slightly better to bat, but don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't put enough runs on the board. With the seamers upfront, we took those 3 wickets and another wicket there, we could open up the game. Credit to those two guys in the middle for stitching an outstanding partnership."
