Australia cricketer Joe Burns has been released from the Queensland team, while the Queensland have announced eight new contracts ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Burns has been released from Queensland's contract after being left off of both the Shield and Marsh Cup teams last summer. His Shield exclusion in February was surprising given how well he had done early in the season.
But after they were eliminated from contention for the Shield final in the second half of the season, Queensland chose to trial a few fresh batsmen, even though he was the top run scorer through the first seven games and averaged a solid 37.16 in a season dominated by the bowlers.
After making his Queensland debut in 2010, the 34-year-old now stands as the sixth highest run scorer in the state's Sheffield Shield history with 7361 runs at 39.36, including 15 hundreds in 112 appearances.
Burns' contract with the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League is also up in December 2020. Burns played his final Test match for Australia against India.
On the other hand, test spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, a left-arm orthodox, has left Queensland and is headed to Tasmania to play more first-class cricket in an attempt to be considered for the Sri Lanka tour.
