The T20I series between England and New Zealand will start from August 30. Although Jimmy Neesham was in the squad for that series, he later withdrew his name. Neesham was supposed to join the New Zealand team after completing the Hundred but returned home to be with his wife during the birth of their first child.
Neesham batted brilliantly for Oval Invincibles in the final of The Hundred on Sunday night. Oval lost 5 wickets for just 34 runs when they went to bat first. Stars like Jason Roy, Sam Billings, Paul Stirling failed and then Tom Curran and Jimmy Neesham made an incredible partnership of 127 runs. Neesham scored 57 runs off 33 balls with seven fours and one six. Curran was more devastating. He scored 67 runs off 34 balls with 5 sixes.
In response, Manchester Originals lost wickets at regular intervals. No one could score big. In the end, Manchester lost by 14 runs. Tom Curran became the man of the match with an all-round performance.
However, Neesham was not supposed to play in The Hundred this year. Oval replaced Neesham when South African batter Heinrich Klaasen departed midway through the tournament. He played a big role in winning the title as a replacement.
On the other hand, New Zealand has named Cole McConchie as Neesham's replacement. So, although he is scheduled to return home after finishing the Hundred, New Zealand spin all-rounder McConchie is now staying in England for the T20 series against England.
New Zealand squad: Tim Southee (c), Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Cole McConchie, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi.
