Pakistan's chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday, a move which was later confirmed by a PCB official.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, the well-known former Pakistan cricket captain and chief selector, has decided to resign from his post in view of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 for managing cricketers.
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has said he will resume his role as chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team if he is found not guilty. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an investigation into the alleged conflict of interest in the team selection process.
Recently, concerns have been raised about Inzamam's alleged involvement in a company owned by Talha Rehmani, who acts as an agent for Inzamam and other players such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi. The issue of potential conflict of interest was highlighted and PCB was expected to seek clarification on the matter from Inzamam on Monday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now announced that it has set up a five-member investigative committee to investigate allegations of conflict of interest reported in the media in relation to the team selection process.
The committee will promptly submit its report and any recommendations to PCB management.
Confirming the news, Inzamam said: “People speak without research. I was asked questions, so I decided it would be better to resign.”
“If PCB wants to investigate me, I am available. People talk [about me] without having any evidence, if there is any then bring it with you. I asked the PCB to do the same. I have no connection with." "At the players' agent company, such allegations hurt me," he added.
The former captain also spoke about the committee formed by the PCB to investigate the matter.
“In a phone call I was informed that a five-member committee had been formed, so I told the board that I had better resign while the investigation was ongoing.”
“When everything returns to normal and [the coast is clear], I will sit down with the PCB again,” Inzamam concluded.
