Following India's victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, Indian cricketers were spotted eating off paper plates while waiting to depart at the airport.
A hurricane warning has left the T20 World Cup-winning India team stranded in Barbados. Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, is expected to pass by Barbados on Sunday night local time, with its center approximately 80 miles off the south coast.
The Indian team, currently staying at the Hilton Hotel, had initially planned to charter a flight straight home. However, due to the impending hurricane, the airport has been closed since Sunday evening, preventing their departure. South Africa, in contrast, managed to leave earlier on Sunday before the airport's closure.
The report also said that after the cyclone passed, the BCCI was making every effort to get the squad out of the nation.
As per the itinerary, Team India was scheduled to depart for New York on Monday at 8:30 PM IST (11 AM local time). The Men in Blue are expected to take a connecting aircraft from Dubai to Mumbai to return home from there. This might not be feasible, though, as Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley stated in a speech that the airport would close by Sunday night.
