India pacer Jaydev Unadkat has signed with Sussex for his maiden season in the County Championship. There, he will play with his India and Saurashtra teammate Cheteshwar Pujara.
As Sussex compete in the first three matches of the County Championship in September, Unadkat will be eligible for selection. Sussex's goal is to earn promotion to the top flight. On September 3, the left-arm pacer will make his first appearance for County against Durham. Additionally, he would be available for Sussex's matches against Leicestershire and Derbyshire, but he would not be able to play in the team's last match since he will be returning to lead Saurashtra in the Irani Cup, which will begin on October 1.
"I have been following the team's recent run of success and I had a nice conversation with Paul (Farbrace, Sussex head coach) and it looks like I can definitely add value and contribute towards the team's goals. "The English County Championship has a wonderful legacy, and I was keen to grab the opportunity whenever I can and it seems to be the right time for me at this point in my career,” Unadkat said in a statement.
"I hope to add to the laurels that my dear friend and team-mate, Cheteshwar, has been adding aplenty while representing Sussex for the last couple of seasons, and more importantly helping the team win games."
The 31-year-old fast bowler has played 103 first-class matches, during which he has amassed an astounding total of 382 wickets while maintaining a respectable batting average of 22.5.
