India Champions defeated Pakistan Champions by 5 wickets in the final match on Saturday (July 13) at Edgbaston, Birmingham, to become the first-ever World Championship of Legends winners.
After winning the toss, Pakistan Champions chose to bat first and amassed a respectable 156 for 6 in their 20 overs. The squad got off to a strong start thanks to Kamran Akmal (24 off 19) and Sohaib Maqsood (21 off 12), but regular wickets held the scoring in check.
In the end, Pakistan could only score 156 runs for 6 wickets. With a superb haul of three wickets, Anureet Singh was the Indian team's best bowler. Pakistan’s innings was anchored by Shoaib Malik's vital 41 off 23 balls, making him the standout player.
With openers Robin Uthappa and Rayudu taking on the Pakistani bowlers in the powerplay, India's chase got off to a brisk start. Following two early strikes, Rayudu made the decision to go deep and he and Gurkeerat Singh Mann cobbled together an important 60-run stand. Rayadu reached his fifty from just 29 balls.
Rayudu and Gurkeerat also went out in a span of 10 runs. The momentum remained solidly in India's favour with Yusuf Pathan's scorching 30 off 16 balls before the latter was dismissed in the last over. However, India sealed the victory, closing at 159 for 5 in 19.1 overs, with skipper Yuvraj Singh (15*) and Irfan Pathan (5*) at the crease.
