The ICC has revealed its nominees for the Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024, with India’s rising pacer Arshdeep Singh, Zimbabwe’s veteran all-rounder Sikandar Raza, Pakistan’s batting maestro Babar Azam, and Australia’s power-hitter Travis Head making the final cut. These players have consistently delivered stellar performances throughout the year, cementing their place as top contenders for the prestigious award.
Arshdeep Singh – India
Arshdeep Singh had a sensational year, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2024 with 17 wickets in eight matches at an impressive average of 12.64 and an economy of 7.16. His overall tally of 36 wickets from 18 matches in 2024 also makes him the highest wicket-taker among Test-playing nations. Arshdeep’s lethal death bowling and consistency have made him a standout in India’s pace attack, and his nomination for the award comes as no surprise.
Travis Head – Australia
Travis Head turned heads with his breathtaking performances across formats in 2024, including in T20Is, where he scored 539 runs from 15 matches at an average of 38.50 and an explosive strike rate of 178.47. His performances in the T20 World Cup, where he was the third-highest run-getter with 255 runs, further elevated his status as a key player for Australia. Head’s ability to dominate bowlers and his consistent run-scoring make him a strong contender for the T20I Cricketer of the Year.
Babar Azam – Pakistan
Although Babar Azam’s Test performances in 2024 weren’t his best, he excelled in the T20I format. The Pakistan former captain scored 738 runs from 24 matches at an average of 33.54, with a strike rate of 133.21. His standout performances include six fifties, with a match-winning 75 against Ireland in the T20 World Cup. Babar is also on the brink of surpassing Rohit Sharma’s record for the most T20I runs, needing just eight runs to become the highest run-getter in the format.
Sikandar Raza – Zimbabwe
Sikandar Raza continues to be the driving force behind Zimbabwean cricket. The all-rounder delivered exceptional performances in 2024, scoring 573 runs and taking 24 wickets from 24 matches. Despite Zimbabwe not qualifying for the World Cup, Raza’s consistent contributions, including his 33-ball century against Gambia and best bowling figures of 5/18 against Rwanda, have made him a deserving nominee for the award.
