Islamabad United, the most successful franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) history, is pleased to announce Ian Butler as its bowling coach for PSL 10.
Defending Pakistan Super League (PSL) winners Islamabad United announced the hiring of former New Zealand cricketer Ian Butler as their new bowling coach for the next PSL 10. The news accompanies the exit of Azhar Mahmood, who is leaving after his ongoing participation with the Pakistan men's national team.
"Islamabad United, the most successful team in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) history, is pleased to announce Ian Butler as its bowling coach for PSL 10," the release stated. Meanwhile, the franchise waves goodbye to Azhar Mahmood, who plays for the Pakistan national team. Azhar was instrumental to Islamabad United's victory as both a player and coach, with the PSL 1 in 2016 as a player and in 2024 as an assistant coach.
Ian Butler, who played eight Tests, 26 ODIs, and 19 T20Is for New Zealand between 2002 and 2013, talked about how thrilled he was to play for Islamabad United and coach in Pakistan for the first time.
"I am thrilled to be coaching for Islamabad United for PSL 10. It is my first coaching stint in Pakistan, and I have been told a lot about the love for cricket here," said Butler.
"Islamabad United have a wonderful legacy in the PSL, and I am eager to get involved with their good bowling team and assist the side to yet another title," he added.
The ex-pacer also acknowledged the role of Azhar Mahmood in the franchise and wished to take it further. "I would also like to thank Azhar Mahmood, who has done an excellent job with this team, and I hope to build on that," he added.
