Bangladesh all-rounder Mahedi Hasan delivered a match-winning performance in Kingstown on Monday (December 16) to help his team secure a 7-run victory against the West Indies in the first T20I. Mahedi, who was adjudged Player of the Match, contributed with both bat and ball, scoring a crucial unbeaten 26 off 24 deliveries and registering stellar bowling figures of 4/13.
Reflecting on his performance, Mahedi credited his experience in the Global Super League for boosting his confidence. “I enjoyed this wicket. I played in the Global Super League before, and that gave me confidence,” he said after the match.
Mahedi played a pivotal role in stabilizing Bangladesh's innings alongside Shamim Hossain, who smashed a quickfire 27 off 13 balls at a critical juncture. “Very good knock from Shamim. It was a crucial moment for our team. I tried my best to have a partnership with Shamim,” Hasan added.
Defending a modest total of 147/6, Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Mahedi, maintained discipline to restrict the West Indies to 140. Mahedi credited their success to sticking to the basics: “We tried to bowl straight and stick to our process.”
The win gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the team looking to build on this momentum in the second T20I.
