A hurricane warning has left the T20 World Cup-winning India team stranded in Barbados. Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, is expected to pass by Barbados on Sunday night local time, with its center approximately 80 miles off the south coast.

The Indian team, currently staying at the Hilton Hotel, had initially planned to charter a flight straight home. However, due to the impending hurricane, the airport has been closed since Sunday evening, preventing their departure. South Africa, in contrast, managed to leave earlier on Sunday before the airport's closure.

The Indian team, fresh off their victory, now faces the challenge of ensuring their safety amidst the severe weather conditions. The team management is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to make arrangements for the players and support staff during the storm. The hurricane warning has disrupted their celebratory plans, adding an unexpected twist to their triumphant return.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that the board is planning a felicitation ceremony for the victorious team upon their return to India.

"Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation," Shah told reporters in Barbados.

India were crowned the T20 World Cup champions after defeating South Africa in their unbeaten run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
