The Indian cricket team faced a disappointing 10-wicket loss against Australia in the second Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, leveling the series 1-1. After a commanding victory in the first Test at Perth, India failed to replicate their performance in Adelaide, with young pacer Harshit Rana enduring a tough outing.
Harshit, who had impressed on debut in Perth, struggled to make an impact in Adelaide, conceding 86 runs without taking a wicket.
In the pink-ball Test, Harshit started well but faded quickly in his second spell as the pitch became less helpful for the bowlers. His only wicket from the 2nd test match was Alex Carey, however, his performance in Adelaide was far from his best, putting pressure on the young pacer.
Harshit's father, Pradeep Rana, a former hammer thrower and weightlifter for the CRPF, has set a high bar for his son. He challenged Harshit to reach the 150 kph mark, believing that this pace will ensure his future success.
Speaking to Indian Express, Pradeep stated, “I have challenged him to bowl 150 kph. I will consider you a player the day you touch 150 kph. If you bowl 150 kph, no one will stop you from playing for India, but if you will bowl 125 kph, even a local club will not select you.”
India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, had secured a massive 295-run win in Perth but stumbled in Adelaide. With the series now level, India must win at least two of the remaining three Tests to maintain their hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. The third Test will be played at the Gabba, Brisbane, starting December 14.
