Hasan Mahmud's last over heroic guides Bangladesh to a narrow 7-run victory
Opener Soumya Sarkar's 43 off 32 balls helped the visitors get to 147 on the board. In reply, Bangladesh had the hosts crumbling on 61-7 but captain Rovman Powell rescued the Caribbeans with a blistering fifty but Hasan Mahmud's last over heroic helped Bangladesh get the narrow victory.

Bangladesh beat West Indies by 7 runs in a thriller in the first T20I on Monday (December 16) in St. Vincent. Opener Soumya Sarkar's 43 off 32 balls helped the visitors get to 147 on the board. In reply, Bangladesh had the hosts crumbling on 61-7 but captain Rovman Powell rescued the Caribbeans with a blistering fifty but Hasan Mahmud's last over heroic helped Bangladesh get the narrow victory.
Being inserted to bat first, Bangladesh didn’t have a solid way to start their innings. Akeal Hossain knocked over Tanzid Hasan Tamim after a sedate 6 off 11 deliveries. And in the very next delivery, he had Litton Das for a golden duck and left Bangladesh stutter. West Indies did further damage as Roston Chase picking up the wicket of Afif Hossain.
But Soumya Sarkar and Jaker Ali did the rebuilding job, stitching a hardfought 57-run partnership together before Romario Shepherd on 27 off 27 balls. Soumya made a superb 43 before being knocked over to Obed McCoy.
At the backend of the innings, Shamim Hossain scored a quick-fire cameo of 27 off only 13 balls to help his side get to 147 on the board.
In reply, Mahedi Hasan ran through the West Indies' top order as he claimed four wickets to left them struggling on 37-4. Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib did the further damage, removing the others from the middle order as West Indies were down to 61-7.
However, skipper Rovman Powell stood tall and he rescued West Indies from the abyssal, smashing a fifty in no time. However, Bangladesh took the game down to the wire as the hosts were needing of 10 off the last over. Hasan Mahmud removed the well settled Powell on his 60 off 35 balls and in the next delivery he knocked over Alzarri Joseph as Bangladesh got a narrow 7-run victory.
