Pakistan announced their squad for the upcoming World Cup in India which commences from October, 5. Hasan Ali replaced injured Naseem Shah, while leg spinner Usama Mir got a call for the mega event. But unfortunately, Faheem Ashraf dropped from the squad.
Pakistan's World Cup squad announcement was delayed by several days as the PCB took stock of a disappointing Asia Cup campaign where they finished bottom of the super fours after losing to Sri Lanka and their arch-rivals India. Also the board were waiting for the Naseem Shah's injury update, given he was their first priority choice. As a further point of intrigue, Hafeez resigned from the technical committee on the eve of the squad release. But amidst all of these tumultuous situations, the PCB released a statement on Thursday saying chairman Zaka Ashraf had met the captain Babar Azam. And then today their chief selector Inzamam - ul - Haq announced their World Cup squad in a press conference.
Pakistan's World Cup squad : Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Usama Mir, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Hasan Ali.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign with a warm up match against New Zealand on September 29, followed by another against Australia on October 3. Pakistan will play their first game of the tournament against Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad.
