England have beaten Australia by 46 runs (DLS method) at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-street. Captain Harry Brook's maiden ODI hundred, along with Will Jacks' incredible 84 helped them get to the win and coming to a scoreline of 2-1.
Being inserted to bat first, Australian openers didn't last long as Marsh and Short departed earlier on. While No. 3 batter Steve Smith held on there and stitched partnership with Cameron Green. The duo added 84 runs off 96 deliveries before Green got out on 42 from 49 balls. While Smith made a gutsy fifty and immediately fell to Jofra Archer.
Marnus Labuschagne too had a three-ball duck and Australia were in all sorts of trouble. However, Wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey and all-rounder Aaron Hardie strung there for a magnificent 68-run partnership. Hardie was quick-fire and scored 44 off 26 deliveries. While Carey scored a fantastic 77* off 65 balls and helped Australia score 304 on the board.
In reply, Mitchell Starc gave Australia a brutal start, removing both the openers in a jiffy. But Will Jacks and skipper Harry Brook had other plans. The duo had a marathon partnership of 156 runs and took the game away from Australia. However, Will Jacks departed after scoring a brisk 84 off 82 deliveries but Harry Brook was adamant and he blasted a century.
England were on 254-4 and then rain arrived but the hosts already were 46 runs ahead according to DLS method and they've bounced back in the series.
