The Guyana Amazon Warriors kicked off their Global Super League campaign with a convincing win over the Lahore Falcons. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, the young Bangladeshi pacer and U-19 World Cup winner, impressed in his franchise league debut, contributing significantly to his team’s victory in Providence.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Guyana’s captain Imran Tahir handed the ball to Tanzim early. The pacer delivered immediately, trapping Mirza Baig lbw in the second over. Tanzim returned to claim the final wicket, helping dismiss Lahore for just 125 in 19.2 overs. He finished with figures of 2/20 from 3.2 overs, marking a stellar start to his overseas franchise career.

The middle overs belonged to Dwaine Pretorius, who rattled Lahore with a four-wicket haul. The South African all-rounder dismissed several key batters, leaving Carlos Brathwaite’s star-studded side struggling to build momentum. Tanzim’s contributions at both the start and finish ensured that Lahore couldn’t recover.

Only Tom Abell (48 off 45 balls) and Adam Rossington (25 off 19 balls) managed to offer some resistance. With just three batters reaching double digits, the Falcons folded for a modest total.

In addition to Tanzim and Pretorius, Hasan Khan bagged two wickets, while captain Imran Tahir chipped in with one.

Chasing 126, Guyana had a shaky start, losing Mark Deyal in the first over. Moeen Ali and Shai Hope steadied the innings before Moeen departed for 17 off 19 balls. Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase fell cheaply, but Hope held one end firmly.

It was Kemo Paul’s explosive 27* off 13 balls, featuring two fours and two sixes, that sealed the win with 13 balls to spare. Hope remained unbeaten on 45 off 43 balls, also hitting two fours and two sixes.

For Lahore, Salman Mirza and Asif Afridi picked up two wickets each, but their efforts were not enough to stop Guyana.

Dwaine Pretorius was deservedly named Player of the Match for his all-around contribution, including four wickets and two brilliant catches.
