England have dominated the second day of the second Test. Gus Atkinson brought up his maiden Test hundred with over 100 strike rate and got England over 400 on the board. Sri Lanka were in the abyssal after being stuttering on 87-6. But Kamindu Mendis once again showed his class and grit and Mendis' resistance helped Sri Lanka get close to 200 [196].
Gus Atkinson
Gus Atkinson started the day smashing a swashbuckling hundred. He made a fantastic 118 off only 115 deliveries and helped his side get over 400 on the chart [427]. Asitha Fernando came up as the standout bowler as he picked up five wickets to his name. Milan Rathnayake and Lahiru Kumara also shared two wickets each.
In reply, Sri Lanka were helpless infront of the English pacers. Olly Stone ran riot through the Lankan top order as he removed Nishan Madushka and Pathum Nissanka. Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal got going but didn't make their innings sustainable and got out inside 25. At one point, Sri Lanka were crumbling on 87-6.
But Kamindu Mendis gave a solid resistance once again and scored a fantastic 74 off 120 balls to help Sri Lanka score 196 on the board. Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Olly Stone and Matthew Potts all shared two wickets each.
England lost once wicket of Dan Lawrence before the stumps but still they're well and truly ahead of Sri Lanka in the game.
England currently have 256 runs lead in hands and will ask to stretch this lead over 400 to take the game away from Sri Lanka.
