Gurbaz, Farooqi, Rashid sparkle in Afghanistan's thumping 84-run victory over New Zealand

Afghanistan crashed New Zealand to register the victory by 84 runs on Saturday (8th June) at Providence Stadium, Guyana. Rahmanullah Gurbaz's blistering 80 off only 56 deliveries powered Afghanistan to a big total of 159 runs on a tough deck. In reply, the Afghan bowlers showcased their class to tear apart the Kiwi batting lineup and hand Afghanistan a thumping 84 run victory.
Afghanistan are in driver's seat of Group C with two thrashing win over Uganda and New Zealand.
Being asked to bat first, Afghanistan had a sedate start with scoring only 55 runs off first overs. And then the opening duo - Gurbaz and Zadran uppped the ante with smashing five sixes in next 14 balls and three of them came against Michael Bracewell's over. The opening stand brought up another century stand and Matt Henry broke the partnership.
Azmatullah Omarzai played a little cameo [22 off 13 balls] coming at number three with Afghan's middle order collapsed horribly once again.
Gurbaz steered the ship and blasted a whirlwind 80 off only 56 deliveries, with smacking two sixes in penultimate over before Boult knocked him over in the last over of the innings. Afghanistan managed to post a competitive 159 on the board.
New Zealand were sloppy in the field, they dropped a couple of catches, missed run-out chances which costed them the innings.
In pursuit of a tricky chase, New Zealand started in a horrid way. Afghan paceman Fazalhaq Farooqi sliced through the top-order with a 3 wicket burst inside the powerplay. The trauma New Zealand got, they couldn’t cope up with it.
Afghanistan spinners kept up with the flow as they were making things tight. Rashid and Nabi ran riot through the Kiwi middle order. Only Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry reached reached double digits and every other batter was out on single digit score.
Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid had four wickets apiece as the duo shared 8 wickets together. Mohammad Nabi also picked up two wickets. This 84- run victory has put New Zealand on the back-foot with Afghanistan advancing their chances to play at the Super-Eight.
