New Zealand selector Gavin Larsen has decided to step down from his position at New Zealand Cricket and take up the role of high performance director at Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC).
Gavin Larsen has decided to step down as a New Zealand selector after nearly eight years in office. The former New Zealand seaman will now relocate to England with his wife Karen to take up the role of Performance Director in Warwickshire, subject to visa approval. He is set to replace Paul Farbrace, who left his job as Warwickshire's sporting director in October last year.
Under Larsen, who took on the role of selector in 2015, New Zealand enjoyed tremendous success in all formats, including reaching the finals of the 2019 50-over World Cup and the 2021 T20 World Cup, and winning the first World Test Championship (WTC) of the year 2021 .
A former New Zealand Test and ODI player, Larsen was managing director of Cricket Wellington and cricket operations manager prior to the 2015 World Cup before being appointed Black Caps selection manager in 2015.
Larsen said he was very grateful to NZC for the opportunity to work with the Black Caps' two most successful coaches, first Mike Hesson and then Gary Stead.
"The last seven and a half years have flown by and I've savored and enjoyed every minute of it," said Larsen.
"The discussions and deliberations have always been robust and challenging, but my lasting memory will always be the quality of the people I've worked with - from high performance to administration.
“Relationships with everyone: the Major Association coaches, BLACKCAPS officials, the players and the team at NZC have always been one of genuine trust and goodwill. I had the time of my life."
Larsen said the new role at Edgbaston marks a new chapter in his career.
“I'm excited and excited to be coming to Warwickshire. WCCC is a club with an amazing history and tradition and I look forward to joining the team and helping to drive the club's continued success.
