A shocking and unverified report has emerged, claiming that Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has accused batter Sarfaraz Khan of leaking confidential dressing room conversations to the media. The report surfaced following India's 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, and while its authenticity remains uncertain, it has sparked a significant controversy.
According to the report by News 24, as quoted by Rediff, Gambhir pointed fingers at Sarfaraz during a review meeting with officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were also present at the meeting. The report further suggests that Sarfaraz's alleged actions could jeopardize his future in the national team, particularly while Gambhir remains in charge.
Notably, Sarfaraz Khan was benched throughout the Border-Gavaskar series and did not play a single Test in Australia. Despite this, his name reportedly came up during the review, with Gambhir accusing him of being the source of the dressing room leaks to the media. However, no solid evidence was presented in the report to back Gambhir's accusations, and neither Gambhir nor Sarfaraz has publicly commented on the matter.
Addressing the media ahead of the Sydney Test, Gambhir emphasized the importance of maintaining honesty within the dressing room and refrained from directly confirming the reports of the alleged leaks.
“Debates between coach and player should remain in the dressing room. Stern words. They were just reports, not truth,” Gambhir said.
He further added, “Indian cricket will be in safe hands till honest people stay in the dressing room. The only thing that keeps you in the dressing room is performance. There were honest words, and honesty is important. The team-first ideology is what matters most.”
While the claims remain unverified, the controversy adds pressure on Gambhir, who has faced scrutiny following India's disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Sarfaraz Khan, who has been considered a promising talent, may find his career under threat if the allegations are substantiated.
Gambhir’s focus will soon shift to India's upcoming home series against England, where they are set to play five T20Is and three ODIs. The series will be followed by the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and the UAE.
