New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 5 runs in a thriller to level up the series on Sunday (November 10). A superb hat-trick from Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips's outstanding last over helped the Kiwis defend 108 runs on a sluggish pitch.
Being inserted to bat first, Nuwan Thushara ran riot through the Kiwis top order and he removed Tim Robinson for a golden duck and then had Mark Chapman for cheaply. Wanindu Hasaranga then came into the charge and ran through the middle order, removing Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell for four-ball duck and Mitch Hay for cheaply.
Will Young, however, scored a gutsy 30 off 32 balls, while Josh Clarkson too scored 24 off 25 balls and helped the Kiwis get 108 on the board.
Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets and Matheesha Pathirana had three wickets.
In reply, Mitchell Santner knocked over Kusal Mendis. Lockie Ferguson came in to steam with his express pace and picked up an incredible hat-trick to uplift New Zealand in the innings.
Pathum Nissanka stood tall in the chase. New Zealand kept chipping away with wickets.
Sri Lanka needed only 8 runs off the final over, Glenn Phillips came to bowl the last over and he delivered unarguably one of the best death overs to pick up three wickets and gave away only 2 runs to help the Kiwis level up the series by 1-1.
