Rajshahi Division’s stalwart all-rounder, Farhad Hossain, has officially retired from first-class cricket after nearly two decades on the domestic scene. His final match, however, ended in disappointment as Rajshahi Division suffered a 101-run defeat against Rangpur Division in the National Cricket League (NCL).
Farhad made his first-class debut in 2005 against Barishal Division in Rajshahi, marking the beginning of a long and successful domestic career. Over 161 matches, he scored 9,065 runs with an average of nearly 36, recording 18 centuries and 46 half-centuries. Known for his skill with both bat and ball, Farhad also claimed 165 wickets, underscoring his versatility on the field. Despite his achievements, the 37-year-old never received the call-up to represent Bangladesh’s national team—a notable absence that adds complexity to his legacy.
This season’s NCL proved to be a mixed experience for Farhad. While he scored well in the opening match, he struggled in subsequent games. His final appearance was against Rangpur, where Rajshahi faltered after a closely contested first innings. Rangpur scored 189, which Rajshahi matched precisely. However, in their second innings, Rangpur reached 262, setting a 263-run target. Farhad contributed 26 runs in the first innings and 9 in the second, but Rajshahi was ultimately dismissed for 161, conceding the game.
