Fakhar Zaman smashed a third straight century to lead Pakistan to a seven-wicket win over New Zealand in Saturday's second one-day international.

Fakhar Zaman became the fastest Asian batter to scored 3000 ODI runs in his blistering century in the second ODI against New Zealand at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The left-hander reached the milestone in his 67th inning, beating the record held by his captain, Babar Azam, who took 68 innings to reach the same milestone.

Fakhar is the second fastest batter to reach the 3000 run mark as he equaled Shai Hope's record of hitting 3000 runs in the same number of innings.

The left-hander, 33, unbeaten hit 180 of 144 balls for his tenth ODI hundred, setting five unique records in the process.

It followed his 117 in the first game and 101 against the same opponent in January as Pakistan chased a tough 337-run target in 48.2 overs.

The win gave Pakistan a 2-0 lead in the five-game series, with the last three games in Karachi on May 3, 5 and 7.

"It was my lucky day to score again against New Zealand because I had chances," said Zaman.

"I try to take my time in the beginning and then with five players in a circle it becomes easier to score." Visiting skipper Latham described Zaman as "outstanding".

"We were very happy at half-time," said Latham. “Fakhar played an excellent shot. They could build partnerships and that was a big tick in the batting department.”
