England are still on top despite a good fightback led by Tom Latham and skipper Kane Williamson. After the end of play in day 3, New Zealand are 137 runs ahead with 5 wickets in hand.
England started the day with 45 runs behind, and Bairstow and James Overton batting, who played an unbelievable innings in the second day. Overton barely missed out on a debut century, after being dismissed for 97. Stuart Broad provided some fireworks after Overton's dismissal. Broad's quickfire 42 and Bairstow's magnificent 162 propelled England to a total of 360, with a lead of 31 runs. Trent Boult picked up 4 wickets for the Kiwis.
New Zealand lost opener Will Young pretty early, with Matthew Potts nicking him off to the third slip. Tom Latham and captain Kane Williamson took charge of the rebuild and were doing a wonderful job. They stitched a partnership of 97 and were on course to take the Kiwis lead to a big total.
Overton gave England the breakthrough by removing Latham for 76. Then Joe Root provided another success by removing Devon Conway before he got set. But the Kiwis were truly in trouble when Potts removed Williamson for 48. Henry Nicholls also got out early and suddenly New Zealand were 161/5.
Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell, the in form duo stuck around till ran came in and eventually stumps was called.
