Team India made a terrific comeback in the fourth Test against England at The Oval in London. After losing the third Test at Headingley in Leeds, the Indian national cricket team led by Virat Kohli got the better of Joe Root & Co by 157 runs in the 4th Test.
Rightly so, the visitors took a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series. Team India would require a win or a draw in order to win the series. On the other hand, England must win the final Test in order to level the series.
The fifth and final Test was originally planned to start today at The Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. In a shocking development, the fifth Test between England and India is unlikely to begin at Old Trafford on Friday.
The start of the Manchester Test is postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic as per the reports. Meanwhile, a date for Day 1 of the final Test is not available either. A final decision on whether and when the game will begin is awaited.
Yogesh Parmar, who is the team India's junior physiotherapist, became the fourth person of the Indian contingent to test positive for covid-19. This shocking development put the final Test at total risk.
Earlier, India's head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar contracted the virus infection. Meanwhile, India's cricket body BCCI and the ECB are reportedly in meetings to discuss the matter.
According to ESPNcricinfo, more than one Indian player expressed concerns about taking the field in talks between the BCCI and the team management over the last two days.
Several players are expected to travel to UAE right after the Test with the second phase of the IPL scheduled to begin on 19 September.
The whole Indian squad returned negative RT-PCR tests on Thursday. Nonetheless, the results of another testing are awaited on Friday morning.
Physio Parmar had been constantly monitoring several players including Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma players with several niggles during and after the fourth Test that came to a close on Monday.
