The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 season was filled with anticipation and excitement surrounding Dhaka Capitals. With a star-studded lineup and Bangladeshi film superstar Shakib Khan as the franchise owner, expectations were sky-high. However, on-field performances fell short, as Dhaka finished sixth out of seven teams, failing to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite their struggles, the team management remained professional, ensuring timely player payments and a smooth operational structure. Even foreign players appreciated the franchise's well-organized management.

Dhaka ended their campaign with a six-wicket defeat to Khulna Tigers. Speaking at the post-match press conference, batter Sabbir Rahman pointed out that the team never managed to build momentum, which played a key role in their downfall.

"T20 cricket is all about momentum. We lost the first few matches and couldn’t recover. Later, when we started gaining momentum, we couldn’t hold onto it. We had very little time to bounce back, and that’s where we failed. As a team, we simply couldn’t deliver. Nothing can be done now—our season is over, and we’ll prepare for next year." – Sabbir Rahman.

Against Khulna Tigers, Dhaka Capitals managed only 123 runs, exposing their batting struggles. While acknowledging the batting unit’s failure, Sabbir also pointed fingers at the pitch conditions.

"At first, when (Tanzid Hasan) Tamim started batting, it felt like a 200+ wicket. But as the innings progressed, it seemed like a 120-run wicket. By the time I batted, the pitch became difficult, challenging. Unfortunately, we couldn’t adjust to the conditions." – Sabbir Rahman.

When asked about recent match-fixing rumors surrounding the BPL, Sabbir dismissed them, stating that such matters are not for players to comment on. "This is an external issue, not something for us to discuss. The BCB officials are handling everything." – Sabbir Rahman.

Sabbir, who was not part of BPL last year, expressed gratitude to Dhaka Capitals for selecting him this season. "Last year, I didn’t get an opportunity. This year, I did. Thanks to Dhaka Capitals for giving me a chance. We finished sixth, and that’s where losing teams end up. Hopefully, next season, we will prepare better and come back stronger." – Sabbir Rahman.

As for team owner Shakib Khan, Sabbir revealed that he remained in constant touch with the franchise’s operations team. "Shakib bhai is busy with his film commitments, often working abroad. However, he always stayed connected with CEO Atik (Fahad) Bhai and Mizan Bhai. We spoke to him occasionally, and his words were always positive and encouraging." – Sabbir Rahman.
