Ireland earlier won the toss and chose to bowl first. Being put into bat first, they got off to a flying start. The openers batted with positive gestures. The opening stand was worth of 55 runs before Craig Young struck twice to remove Philip Salt and Zak Crawley, who went for a duck despite being the leader of the team. Ben Duckett Joined Jacks as they continued doing greats things on a flat deck.
Duckett missed his fifty and Jacks missed his ton but Sam Hain on debut had other ideas. He absolutely whacked the Irish bowlers at ease. Dockrell picked up three crucial wickets at the middle overs but the run rate didn’t slow down much. Sam Hain made a swashbuckling 89 off just 82 balls on debut. Jacks top scoring for England as he made 94 from just 88 deliveries. England posted an indomitable total of 334 on the board.
In reply, Irish batters got starts but couldn’t rack up things. Paul Stirling made 25 off just 17 balls and threw his wicket away to Matty Potts. Curtis Campher had a rare off day as he made only 9. Harry Tector was going strongly and went for scoring a fine 39 from 40 balls. Dockrell batted brilliantly with the lower order and made 43 runs.
However Ireland's tail wagged and gave a serious headache to the English bowlers. Ben McCarthy scored an absolute fine 41 from just 38 deliveries. With Craig Young aided with his 40 from just 44 balls. Number 11 batter Joshua Little too had contributions today as he made 29 off 29 balls and Ireland were bundled for 286 and left short for 48 runs.
