Bangladesh continued their impressive form with a clinical 27-run victory over West Indies in the second T20I in Kingstown, securing the series with one match to spare. Shamim Hossain’s blistering knock and a disciplined bowling effort from the Tigers ensured the win. Stand-in captain Litton Das praised the collective effort, highlighting Shamim’s key role and the bowlers' contributions.
In a match where batters struggled to score freely, Shamim Hossain stood tall. Coming in during a precarious position, Shamim smashed an unbeaten 35 off 17 balls, including two sixes and two fours, at a strike rate of 205.88. His fireworks propelled Bangladesh to a defendable total of 129/7.
The West Indies bowlers, led by Gudakesh Motie (2/25) and Akeal Hosein (1/16), kept things tight initially, but Shamim’s late blitz proved crucial.
Chasing 130, West Indies faltered under the relentless pressure from Bangladesh’s bowlers. Taskin Ahmed, leading the charge, claimed 3/16, while Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up two wickets each.
The hosts struggled to build partnerships, with only Roston Chase (32 off 34) and Akeal Hosein (31 off 31) making notable contributions. Taskin’s early strikes, removing Brandon King and Andre Fletcher cheaply, set the tone for Bangladesh’s dominance.
West Indies were bowled out for 102 in 18.3 overs, falling short by 27 runs.
Litton Das, captaining the side in Najmul Hossain Shanto's absence, lauded the team’s all-round effort after the match. “I'm very happy, not only me but all the Bangladeshi people. We were looking at such a win. When I faced the first ball, I knew it was very difficult to bat on this pitch, thanks to Shamim, he batted really well. Credit goes to all the bowlers. When we take wickets, whoever comes to bowl gives us wickets. It's all about a team effort. We are in a good flow at the moment, and we have to come and play good cricket again.”
