Netherlands coach Ryan Cook says that they prepared for each of the individual batters of Bangladesh before the game but they failed to execute the plans on the field.
Netherlands lost to Bangladesh by 25 runs on Thursday (June 13) at Kingstown, ST Vincent. Earlier, Bangladesh posted 159 on the board. Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's brilliant fifty, along with some late blitz from Jaker Ali and Mahmudullah Riyad helped Bangladesh reach this total. In reply, miserly spell from Mustafizur Rahman and a match-turning spell from Rishad Hossain snatched the game away from the Dutch. Netherlands were restricted to 134 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh lost captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das within powerplay. But then Shakib scored the only half-century of the match. He was unbeaten on 64 runs off 46 balls. Later, Mahmudullah and Jaker also played some effective innings.
The bowlers of Netherlands bowled the shorter length balls at first which Bangladesh batters struggled to play but then they did full balls most of time which Bangladesh batters exploited. “When we sort of go and doing the brief of the game, I think our plans were in place. We did a lot of research and we’re very prepared for each individual batter that we come up against and we would have known some of those plans.
“We didn’t do some of those plans today and unfortunately, that wasn’t down to execution. That’s probably down to decision-making. Obviously we tried and executed to bowl in the right place every single time and there is going to be the times when you don’t execute. The guys will probably be quite disappointed that the plans we put in place weren’t maybe gone to rather than sort of what we did out on the field there today,” Cook said.
