It has been an early day in Kanpur as the umpires called off the day 1 play due to incessant rain. Bangladesh have scored 107-3 and only 35 overs were played on day 1. Mominul Haque top scored for Bangladesh with a gutsy 40* off 81 deliveries.
After opting to bowl first, India exploited the overcast condition. Indian seamers bowled really well at the very beginning of the day, bowled in probing lines and lengths and ball was beating bat for regular occasions. India were succesful in picking up two wickets.
Opening batter Zakir Hasan never looked comfortable as he was the first man to depart, he got out to Akash Deep after a long struggle of 24-ball duck. Shadman Islam, on the contrary, was fluent and batted cautiously, scored 24 off 36 before Akash trapped him for LBW.
Bangladesh stitched a fantastic partnership after then, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and No. 3 batter Mominul Haque looked calm and composed. They navigated the rest of the first session with some delightful shots. The duo added 51 runs before Ravichandran Ashwin came and trapped the skipper for LBW after a fluent 31 off 57 deliveries.
Bangladesh are currently on 107-3 and Mominul Haque is unbeaten on 40* and Mushfiqur Rahim is there on 6*. Both of them are experienced and Bangladesh will be hoping from them to stitch a solid marathon partnership to bail the visitors out of trouble.
On the other hand, for India, it was Akash Deep who picked up two wickets and Ashwin had one sole wicket of the Bangladesh skipper.
