There hasn't been an official confirmation as to when the pacer will be returning to the mix. The right-arm paceman was last seen in cricketing action back in September 25 where he played his last T20I against Australia. He was also ruled out of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League.
Jasprit Bumrah who hasn't played any form of competitive cricket for India since September 25, 2022 is currently undergoing rehabilation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Moreover, the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in India later this year in the October-November window.
The Indian team management would definitely want Bumrah to feature in the tournament. Meanwhile, former wicketkeeper batsman Saba Karim added that the BCCI, selectors and the NCA need to be totally careful with Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, considering the fact that 2023 World Cup to be held later this year in India.
Saba Karim shares his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah's current situation
Furthermore, the former Indian cricketer opened up on his insights on Jasprit Bumrah's situation and the BCCI's cautious approach towards his comeback. Back in September 2022, the fast bowler's career took a hit when he ran through a back injury that kept him out of the international set-up.
During an interview with Jio Cinema, Saba Karim stated, “The decisions are taken by the NCA support staff. The system is pretty clear that any centrally contracted player goes to NCA and the rehab process starts. Right now, Bumrah is undergoing rehab at the NCA along with Prasidh Krishna.”
In addition, he said, "Whatever transpired in the past, there was some lack of communication either between the selectors or demands of the team management. Maybe that was one reason why Bumrah was rushed back too quickly.”
“This time around, keeping the World Cup in mind, not only the BCCI, but also the selectors and NCA support staff have to be extremely cautious. That is why even though he is match fit; they want him to play some of these NCA practice matches. Right now, the NCA support staff feels that it is better if they organise some practice matches for him so that slowly, he can be eased into the national setup. Maybe they are trying to get him ready for the Ireland series," Saba Karim concluded.
