Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has introduced its first-ever mascot, ‘Dana 36,’ alongside a new theme song, marking a significant shift in the tournament’s branding and cultural connection. The mascot was unveiled at a special event titled “Towards Building a New Bangladesh: Youth Festival 2025” held at the InterContinental Hotel in Dhaka. The initiative ties the excitement of the cricket league with the essence of the historic July-August student movements.
The unveiling ceremony began with a minute of silence in remembrance of the martyrs of the July-August movements. Distinguished guests, including Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed, and several government dignitaries, graced the event. Cricket stars such as Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Nigar Sultana were also present, alongside athletes and cultural icons.
The mascot, Dana 36, symbolizes freedom, peace, youth, and vitality. Its design features an artistic pigeon head with outstretched wings, bearing 36 vibrant feathers representing the enduring memory of the “36 July 2024” protests. This symbolism aims to connect the nation’s aspirations for independence and progress with the vibrancy of its youth.
Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud emphasized that the BPL is set to reflect the values of sustainability and inclusivity this year. He announced that seven government ministries will collaborate to make the league more impactful. The Youth Festival 2025, held in conjunction with the BPL, will host sports and cultural events at the grassroots level, including football, cricket, and other competitions, along with displays, awards, and eco-friendly initiatives.
As part of the festival, the BPL will integrate features to honor the July-August movements. For instance, spectators will have access to free water in honor of the late martyr Mugdho, while donation boxes for the July Foundation will be placed in galleries. A dedicated Zero Waste Zone will also be established in the stands, highlighting the league’s commitment to environmental sustainability
The BPL, starting on December 30, 2024, will culminate in the grand finale of the U-20 Women’s SAFF Championship in Dhaka on February 19, 2025. The league will feature various entertainment options, including concerts in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet on December 23, 25, and 27. Additionally, e-ticketing will make it easier for fans to participate.
The initiative aims to merge cricket’s excitement with cultural and historical reverence, making this edition of the BPL not just a sporting event but a festival of freedom and youth.
