Punjab Kings star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been reprimanded by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday punished Punjab Kings all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
Although the BCCI did not specify the exact incident, it confirmed that Maxwell admitted a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The article refers to the "misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures during a match."
Maxwell was found guilty of an offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials.
Article 2.2 deals with all such acts that are not part of the regular course of cricket, like kicking or hitting the wickets, and all such acts that cause damage to advertising hoardings, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows, and other fittings intentionally (i.e., deliberately), recklessly, or negligently (in both instances, including accidentally). The offense may, say, be perpetrated with impunity where a player in frustration swings violently with his bat and destroys a advertising hoarding, the ruling declares.
The incident occurred during a match between Punjab Kings, who secured a decisive 18-run victory over CSK in Mullanpur. The reason for this was a brilliant century by young Priyansh Arya. While Maxwell was unconvincing with the bat, scoring only one point, he scored with the ball, taking a meager 1/11. His dismissal by Rachin Ravindra was considered a key moment of the match.
Despite his disciplinary setback, Maxwell's bowling performance helped increase the leverage for CSK's top order and played a key role in defending PBKS's 218 runs. However, the all-rounder's inconsistency in batting remains a concern for the franchise.
