Bangladesh's campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India was nothing short of a disaster. Despite fielding one of the most promising teams in recent memory, the team managed to win only 2 out of 9 matches, finishing 8th out of 10 teams.
Expectations for the World Cup were sky-high. Many were dreaming of seeing Bangladesh in the semifinals, finals, or even lifting the trophy. The team was brimming with confidence, but their performance was disappointing. Moreover, the lead-up to the World Cup was marred by various controversies that shook the country's cricketing community.
To investigate the poor performance, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formed a three-member committee. This committee interviewed all team members and the coaching staff and submitted a report. However, despite the passage of nearly a year, this report has not been made public. The newly elected BCB president, Faruque Ahmed, has now announced that the report will be released.
Speaking to the media after a board meeting, Faruque said, "It is completely illogical not to release the World Cup report. I definitely want to bring it to light. Since I wasn't a part of it, there's no reason for me not to make it public. I want to release it."
Faruque added, "There were reports on the last World Cup and some previous reports as well. I have asked the CEO to show them to me. We will make further decisions after reviewing the reports."
In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Bangladesh only managed to defeat Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. They even lost to the Netherlands, who had come through the qualifiers.
