There has been much speculation about Jasprit Bumrah's leadership abilities for the Indian cricket squad, and former Pakistani player Basit Ali has joined the fray. There has been increasing talk about Bumrah's potential captaincy, but Ali has said clearly that the star pacer should not try to lead the squad but rather focus on his bowling.

Basit Ali, on the other hand, believes that Bumrah's career may suffer as a result of the extra responsibilities of captaincy.
"Jasprit Bumrah is a top-class bowler and should be focusing just on that," Ali remarked on his YouTube channel. He cited the successful captaincies of legendary all-rounders such as Kapil Dev and Imran Khan, emphasizing that both players received their captaincy only after establishing themselves as all-rounders in the team. "They were not appointed captains when they came into their teams as bowlers. This is the difference between a bowler and an all-rounder," Ali added.
While Ali acknowledged the success of Australia’s Pat Cummins as a fast-bowling captain, he emphasized that such examples are rare.
Basit signed off by saying, “He also spoke about Pat Cummins. Yes, Cummins is a good captain, but there are very few fast bowlers who can become a good coach or captain. My best wishes to Jasprit Bumrah. There is a chance that he could be made the captain after the Champions Trophy.”
