Bangladesh U-19 have defended title after thumping India U-19 in the ACC U-19 Asia cup 2024 final. Bangladesh have now won the title for the second time in a row. Bangladesh managed to get only 198 runs after being sent to bat first. Post that, their pacers and bowlers stepped up to wrap up India for a paltry 139 runs to hand Bangladesh another U-19 Asia Cup title.
Being inserted to bat first, Bangladesh lost their opener Kalam Siddiqui Alam after his struggling 1 off 16 balls. Zawad Abrar, the other opener, scored 20 off 35 deliveries before departing to Chetan Sharma. India drew their biggest breakthrough when they got the wicket of Azizul Hakim on 16 and left Bangladesh U-19 team stuttering on 66-3.
Mohammad Shihab James and Md Rizan Hossan then stood tall as the duo stitching up together for a fighting 62 run stand together. Ayush Mahtre removed the latter one on 40 off 67 deliveries, while Riza Hossan was knocked over by Hardik Raj after scoring 47 off 65 deliveries.
At the backend of the innings, Farid Hasan Faysal smashed 39 off 49 deliveries to help his side inch closer to 200, as Bangladesh U-19 team finished their innings on 198.
In reply, Ayush Mhatre was gone cheaply as Al Fahad knocked him over. Maruf Mridha then had Vaibhav Suryavanshi as India fell in deep trouble.
Andre Siddharth and Karthikeya tried to resolve the innings but Rizan Hossan chopped on the former one, while Iqbal Hossain Emon had the latter one.
India were in deep trouble and at one point, they were crumbling on 92-7. They then tried to build up a partnership but a spectacular delivery from the Bangladesh skipper Azizul Hakim had the dangerous Hardik Raj to leave India stuttering on 124-9, needing more 75 runs.
Their last wicket stand defied some moments, scoring some runs but it was Bangladesh captain Azizul Hakim who removed the last man to sense another U-19 Asia Cup victory.
