Despite a tough start in the Dhaka Test against South Africa, Bangladesh still believes in a comeback. South Africa secured a commanding 202-run lead after scoring 308 in their first innings, responding to Bangladesh’s mere 106. However, Bangladesh's pacer Hasan Mahmud remains optimistic about their chances.
Speaking to the media, Hasan shared that the team still believes they can secure a victory if they set a target of over 200 runs for South Africa. “I think if we give them a target of more than 200 runs, we can win. If we bat for three sessions or two and a half sessions, I believe we can even reach around 400,” said Hasan, expressing confidence in the batting unit.
At the end of the second day, Bangladesh had made a slightly better start in their second innings, ending the day at 101/3. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mushfiqur Rahim, unbeaten at 38 and 31 respectively, hold the key to Bangladesh’s recovery. While Joy has been playing cautiously, Mushfiqur has been more aggressive, increasing the scoring rate.
Hasan emphasized the importance of partnerships, saying, "Joy and Mushfiq bhai are playing well. Tomorrow, the plan is to extend their partnership as long as possible, and the remaining batters should approach the innings with the same mindset."
With the team needing at least 300 more runs to stay competitive, Bangladesh faces an uphill battle but remains determined to keep their hopes alive.
