The match between Australia and Afghanistan has been called off due to heavy rain in Rawalpindi and poor drainage system. Both the teams have shared one point each.
Despite this washout, Australia are through to the semis, while Afghanistan's fate is hanging on by a thread. Australia have 4 points in their bag, with a sole victory and two washouts. On the contrary, Afghanistan have a win against England and a massive defeat against South Africa and a washout against Australia.
South Africa is also confirmed with a big victory against Afghanistan and a washout/point share have put them on a strong position for the semifinal hope. Australia need to look at the result of South Africa and England to confirm their opponents for the semifinal.
For the Aussies, they did extremely well after being inserted to bowl first, restricting Afghanistan for a below par total of 273, courtesy Sediqullah Atal's 85 off 95 balls and Azmatullah Omarzai's incredible 67 off 63 deliveries. In reply, Travis Head and Matthew Short started off to a flier, helping Aussies get a solid platform to unleash their prowess. Travis Head made a superb 59* off just 40 balls and was leading the Aussies in the chase. But the rain came in and halted the match.
