Australia considering extra spinner for T20 World Cup
Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar has not been included in Cricket Australia's recently announced 23-man central contract. However, he is in consideration for the World Cup. Australia want a third spinner in the 15-man squad, assuming the World Cup conditions will help the spinners.

Australia want to add a third spin bowler to their T20 World Cup team. To go to the World Cup, they want to bring along another spin bowler along with Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell. Because of the way things are in the West Indies and the USA, they want to take on more spinners.
While Cricket Australia just released their 23-man central contract, left-arm spinner Ashton Agar is not one of them. But he is being thought about for the World Cup. Australia wants a third spin bowler in their 15-person group because they think the conditions at the World Cup will help spin bowlers. This is what Australia's Chief Selector George Bailey said.
Talking to the media, Bailey said, "The balance of the squad will probably lend itself to having that second spinner there. It still seems hard for everyone to get their head around the fact Glenn Maxwell's a pretty handy white-ball spinner and we don't necessarily consider him a part-time option, he's one that we consider a frontline option. So 'Zamps' will clearly be there, and I think there will be an opportunity potentially for one more.
"We will come together at the end of April to put a squad together for that and both Stoin [Stoinis] and Ash Agar [Ashton Agar] will be firmly in the mix for the squad."
Agar has taken 48 wickets in international T20. Which is second highest for Australia. Zampa has the most wickets of 92. Agger last played T20 for Australia in 2022 T20 World Cup.
Leg-spinner Tanvir Sangha, spin-bowling all-rounder Matthew Short and off-spinner Chris Green are competing against Agar for a place in the team as the third spinner. Among them, Sangha, Short and Green have played T20 for Australia after the last T20 World Cup. Sangha took 10 wickets in 7 matches.
