The Asia Cup 2025 will be held in September and will be played in the T20 style to get ready for the T20 World Cup 2026.  It is true that India will host the event, but there are rumors that it won't happen there because of ongoing political tensions with Pakistan.  The UAE and Sri Lanka are two other places that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is thinking about as possible sites.

India and Pakistan have a political feud that has affected their cricketing ties for a long time.  There are no two-way matches between them; they only play each other in ICC and ACC events.  In 2024, the Asia Cup was held in a mixed style. Pakistan was the official host, but India's games were played in Sri Lanka out of safety worries.  In the same way, India refused to play in Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 and chose to play its games in Dubai instead.

To get back at India, Pakistan have also decided not to play in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.  To stay out of trouble, the ACC has chosen to move the game to a neutral site.

The event groups haven't been set in stone yet, but India and Pakistan will be in the same group for sure.  If both teams make it to the Super Four, they will play each other again. If they make it to the final, fans might see a third match between India and Pakistan in the same event!

The Asia Cup 2025 looks like it will be one of the most interesting cricket tournaments of the year. There will be high-stakes games, a fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan, and training for the T20 World Cup.

Asia Cup 2027 will be the next event, and Bangladesh will be the host country.
