The calf issue that kept Ashton Agar out of the ODI World Cup has flared up again, and it appears that he will not be able to play in the five-match Twenty20 International series that Australia will play against India soon after the tournament concludes.
Agar tore his calf during preseason training with the Western Australia Team, ruling him out of the South Africa T20Is in late August. Agar returned to play in September's first ODI against the Proteas, only to draw up sore and be declared out once more. He immediately returned home to give birth to his first child.
The selectors have named batter Marnus Labuschagne as Agar's replacement after it was determined that he will be unable to compete in the World Cup in India. As he continued to recuperate and prepare for a Marsh Cup return, as well as his inclusion in the Australian team for the India T20I leg, he endured a setback.
"Given Agar is a nationally contracted player, WA Cricket will work closely with Cricket Australia to determine his return to play," a WACA statement said.
It is possible that Agar will have a limited amount of time to recover and be available for the start of Perth Scorchers' BBL tight defense, which will take place on December 10 against Melbourne Renegades. His performance during the previous campaign was lackluster, as he only took six wickets across 10 matches.
