England’s star leg-spinner Adil Rashid has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first English spinner to reach 200 ODI wickets. The 36-year-old continues to shine on the international stage, and despite being in the latter stages of his career, Rashid has made it clear that retirement is not on his mind anytime soon.
The Yorkshire cricketer recently addressed his future in international cricket, stating that his focus remains on contributing to England's success in the upcoming World Cups and Champions Trophies. Rashid, a key figure in England's limited-overs setup, emphasized that he is taking things one game at a time, enjoying his cricket, and staying fit to perform at the highest level.
Speaking ahead of the third ODI against Australia, Rashid said: "I have not thought about it yet. Keep playing, enjoy it, stay fit, bowl well, contribute to wins, hopefully World Cups and Champions Trophies - that is my ultimate aim. I have not thought about retiring or calling it a day any time soon. I'm playing each game and each series as it comes and if I'm still enjoying it and performing well, I'll keep carrying on.
As England transitions to a new phase with a blend of young and experienced players, Rashid acknowledges the challenges but remains optimistic about the future.
Reflecting on the changes within the squad, he said: "There have been big changes, new batters, new bowlers. It will take time. It will always take time when it is a rebuilding process. We have got every base covered in terms of bowling, batting, and keeping. Everything is there for us. All we have to do now is play the game of cricket, enjoy it, string a few games together of winning and then off we go."
