Barbados Royals Women's beat Trinbago Knight Riders women's by 4 wickets to clinch the Women's Caribbean Premier League 2024 on Friday (August 30). Aaliyah Alleyne's deadly four-fer wrapped up Trinbago's innings for a measly 93 runs. In reply, star batter Chamari Athapaththu showed her grit and skills to take her side home to clinch the trophy.
Barbados Royals have won WCPL for two times on the trot.Being inserted to bat first, Trinbago didn't start at their best losing quick wickets at the top. Jannillea Glasgow showed some grit to stay for a while on the crease, scoring a sedate 24 off 31 deliveries, she was well supported by Shikha Pandey who made a fluent 28 off 31 balls before falling to Aalliyah Alleyne.
After the arrival of Alleyne, Trinbago kept losing wickets to her as she ran riot through the TKRW's middle order to fold them up for a paltry 93 runs. Alleyne picked up 4 wickets to her name, while Hayley Matthews claimed two wickets.
In reply, Barbados Royals started off to a flier, skipper Matthews made a brisk 13 off 12 before falling to Samara Ramnath. Chamari Athapaththu was there and held on one end like a wall to steer the ship for Barbados Royals.
However, Royals lost some wickets and a bit of a momentum at the middle as Trinbago came back in the game. But their fun didn't last long as Chamari was still there and playing cautiously. Chamari ended up scoring a brilliant 39* off 47 deliveries and stood there till the end remaining unbeaten to make her side champions for two times on the trot.
