Back in IPL 2011 season, the Board of Control of Cricket in
(BCCI) decided to add two more teams and thus as many as 10 teams participated in the tournament. The BCCI and IPL Governing Council had expanded the cash-rich IPL to 10 teams for the 2011 edition.
The two new teams were none other than Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India. Needless to say, after just 1 season, the KTK franchise's contract was put to an by the BCCI because they failed to pay a bank guarantee after a quarrel among multiple owners.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that several players didn't receive payment from the franchise. Former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge on Monday slammed India's cricket body, BCCI has been able to "locate" the money that the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala owed him for representing them in the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League.
The 46-year-old Australian represented KTK in 14 games. The right-handed batsman managed to score 285 runs at an average of 35.63. It should be noted that Hodge was roped in by Kochi Tuskers for USD 425,000 at the 2010 auction.
"Players are still owed 35% of their money earned from ten years ago from the @IPL representing Kochi tuskers. Any chance @BCCI could locate that money?," Hodge tweeted.
According to the Australian's tweet, it seems that KTK still owe him more than USD 127,000. His reaction went viral when he reacted to a report published in the 'Telegraph' about the Indian women's team not receiving their share of USD 550,000 ICC prize money from the richest cricket body.
KTK were terminated after just one season for defaulting on an annual clearance of ₹155.3 crores in 2011. The likes of Rahul Dravid, S Sreesanth and Mahela Jayawardene played for the franchise, which was bought for a whopping ₹1550 crore.
The franchise finished eighth in the 10-team tournament. The reason behind their termination from IPL was that they failed to pay the bank guarantee per year.
