Rajasthan Royals leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has reached the milestone of 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is the first player to do this in the history of IPL.

Chahal was only one wicket short from 200 as he entered the field on Monday against the Mumbai Indians. Chahal quickly addressed the record snub. He made IPL history by being the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in his opening over.

In the eighth over of the innings, Chahal entered the attack for the first time. In the third delivery of the over, he took the wicket. After bowling 4 overs and giving up 48 runs, Chahal grabbed 1 wicket on the day he set the record. Still, he won when he left the field. With nine wickets remaining, Rajasthan Royals eclipsed the 180-run goal set by the Mumbai Indians.

The 2011 IPL saw Chahal get a team for the first time. It was the Mumbai Indians that signed him. However, he made his IPL debut in 2013. In that competition, he only had one opportunity. In that encounter, he did not pick up any wickets. Chahal then switched to the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad. Chahal started to appear often in IPL jerseys for the RCB. Between 2014 and 2021, he was an RCB player who amassed 139 wickets. For the RCB, Chahal has taken more wickets than any other bowler.

Chahal has been playing for Rajasthan Royals since IPL 2022. He won the Purple Cap as the highest wicket taker in his first season playing for Rajasthan Royals. He is the highest wicket-taker along with Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel with 13 wickets in 8 matches played so far in the current IPL.
