At long last, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is over. India emerged victorious after a month-long battle in the shortest format of cricket played on a world stage. In a nail-biting final, Team India prevailed against South Africa by 7 runs to claim the trophy.

The present competition has concluded. Teams will now begin planning and preparing for the next tournament in 2026. 20 teams will compete again next year. Being the hosts, Sri Lanka and India will advance directly to the next round. Even if they didn't get past the quarterfinals, Sri Lanka will still compete in the World Cup as the host nation. Furthermore, India, along with the other eight countries that participated in the Super Eight, will also have the opportunity to qualify straight for the World Cup. Along with India, the other participating teams are the following: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, England, Australia, West Indies, and the USA. That brings the grand total of teams to nine.

Then, the top three teams from the group of those that did not go past the Super Eight will be given automatic berths in the World Cup. New Zealand, Pakistan, and Ireland are the three teams that make up this group, as per the rankings. The most recent rankings have Ireland in eleventh place, Pakistan in seven, and New Zealand in six. A trio of nations participate in the Test series. Twelve teams are now in existence. The qualifying rounds will decide the last eight teams.

Each team will compete in the qualifiers based on the continent on which it is located. In the qualifications, a total of six teams will be determined: two from Europe, two from Africa, and two from Asia.

The two other groups will represent the Americas and East Asia-Pacific, respectively. Twenty teams are now in existence. So, twelve teams have already been announced for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. By making it through the qualifiers, eight more teams will be able to join.

The inclusion of 20 teams in the World Cup was first this time. For the very first time, the World Cup was held in the USA. The competition heated up as the number of teams increased. In the end, many of the member nations' associate teams won.
